For example, sometimes women are understandably distracted or preoccupied with their survival when they are in abusive intimate relationships or have left that type of relationship (e.g., as discussed in these articles about how <a href=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/domestic-violence-doesnt-stay-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">domestic violence affects the workplace<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/sexual-harassment-workplace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">sexual harassment<\/a>). From what some victims have said, and sometimes what\u2019s been left unsaid, those experiences are almost like living and working with a <a href=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/silent-suffering-invisible-disabilities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hidden disability<\/a>. The impact is real but it&#8217;s rarely recognized and it&#8217;s something that many victims try to keep quiet due to ongoing stigma.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><b>Hidden Consequences<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_1122\" style=\"width: 328px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Gender-Equality-blog.mindjet.com_.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1122\" class=\"wp-image-1122 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Gender-Equality-blog.mindjet.com_.jpg\" alt=\"so called women's issues affect all of us\" width=\"318\" height=\"159\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Gender-Equality-blog.mindjet.com_.jpg 318w, https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Gender-Equality-blog.mindjet.com_-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1122\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gender Equality<\/p><\/div>\n<p>These employees are often dealing with anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), missed work due to appointments with health care practitioners, psychologists\/therapists, lawyers, court, etc. Generally speaking, these employees are women but in fairness, there are men who face similar challenges but with even less societal support. To make matters worse, often there are financial issues that add an extra layer of complexity and stress. Combined, all of these things work together in a way that works against productivity, career success, and thriving in general. It\u2019s easy to see how these circumstances contribute to lower performance at work and limited career mobility.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1123\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Invisible-Problems-beckerlaw.com_.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1123\" class=\"wp-image-1123 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Invisible-Problems-beckerlaw.com_-300x147.png\" alt=\"sometimes women's issues create invisible problems at work\" width=\"300\" height=\"147\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Invisible-Problems-beckerlaw.com_-300x147.png 300w, https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Invisible-Problems-beckerlaw.com_.png 320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1123\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Invisible Problems and Women&#8217;s Issues<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><b>Progress is Getting Closer<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently the government of Ontario invested significant resources to\u00a0(1) raise awareness around the idea of bystander intervention in the context of sexual harassment at work and (2) violence against women within the social realm. Here&#8217;s a one-minute video called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=opPb2E3bkoo&amp;t=1s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>#WhoWillYouHelp<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that summarizes it really well. It highlights the fact that it is often an HR issue and that silence often benefits the perpetrators of bad behaviour.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><b>Online Dialogue on Women&#8217;s Issues<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In June 2016, in cooperation with the members of the\u00a0<\/span><b><a href=\"http:\/\/zontaeclubcanada.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zonta e-Club of Canada<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>(which was still-in-formation at the time)<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, I participated in my first TwitterChat. Basically, a TwitterChat is an online discussion or a Q&amp;A session that&#8217;s built around a theme and scheduled for a specific time. This one was organized by <\/span><b>Amber Nasrulla<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Communications Consultant, Media Advisor, and Content Creator. The guests were <\/span><b>Glen Canning<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>ManUp<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and yours truly, Helen Ofosu. Glen Canning is a cyberbullying activist who lost his daughter Rehtaeh Parsons to suicide after relentless online bullying. It\u2019s been argued that if one bystander had stepped in, her experience could have been radically different. After hearing Mr Canning speak, a group of male high school students decided that they could be effective bystanders and improve the culture and safety of their peer group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1130\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/June-TwitterChat-with-Zonta-Ottawa.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1130\" class=\"wp-image-1130 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/June-TwitterChat-with-Zonta-Ottawa-300x211.jpg\" alt=\"women's issues addressed in TwitterChat with Zonta \" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/June-TwitterChat-with-Zonta-Ottawa-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/June-TwitterChat-with-Zonta-Ottawa-768x540.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/June-TwitterChat-with-Zonta-Ottawa-1024x720.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/June-TwitterChat-with-Zonta-Ottawa.jpg 1624w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1130\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">TwitterChat with Zonta e-Club of Canada (organized by members who were formerly part of another Zonta Club)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They formed a group called ManUp. Their approach and their program have been adopted by at least 15 Ottawa area schools. The TwitterChat covered the notion of #HealthyConsent. It\u2019s a timely topic that resonates due to the recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/news\/gta\/2014\/10\/29\/jian_ghomeshi_8_women_accuse_former_cbc_host_of_violence_sexual_abuse_or_harassment.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Jian Gomeshi trial<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the CBC, the recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/katiejmbaker\/heres-the-powerful-letter-the-stanford-victim-read-to-her-ra?utm_term=.wpOKadOK1#.uuW81Vp86\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Stanford rape trial<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/opinion\/gang-rape-reveals-brazils-shocking-attitudes-toward-women\/article30260584\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>gruesome sexual assault in Brazil<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
