It\u2019s an integral part of your existence, one that can influence your fulfillment and security. So what do you do if your job feels like a monotonous trap \u2026 or worse, like an abusive relationship? \u00a0This is an environment you spend most of your adult life in, so why silently settle?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m sure you\u2019ve heard statements like, \u201cAt least I\u2019m employed or work isn&#8217;t supposed to be fun that\u2019s why it\u2019s called work.\u201d \u00a0And that\u2019s a reasonable perspective. \u00a0 No one is saying going to work is comparable to a sunny stroll in the park. But, it also shouldn\u2019t induce depression, paranoia, anxiety, and\/or isolation. Sunday nights shouldn\u2019t make you lie wide-eyed in bed dreading the approaching week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6261\" style=\"width: 294px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/quitting-work-to-pursue-dream-of-not-working-here.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6261\" class=\" wp-image-6261\" src=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/quitting-work-to-pursue-dream-of-not-working-here.jpg\" alt=\"Quitting a toxic job\" width=\"284\" height=\"191\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6261\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">With some planning, you can do better than this &#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Undesirable work environments<\/span>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Unfortunately, most of us have or will experience working in undesirable organizations. For you, perhaps it\u2019s a poorly managed restaurant, where the boss drinks too much and always seems to greedily dip into your tip jar. Yet, each day you sit in a stale cubicle, constantly passed over for promotions you deserve. Meanwhile, office gossip is being generated around you faster than the assigned work. \u00a0And once again, you haven\u2019t been invited for after-work drinks to celebrate a co-worker&#8217;s birthday. Not only do you feel like your boss disregards your work but fails to rectify the divisive attitudes in your department. \u00a0Passive-aggressive <a href=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/workplace-bullying-a-hidden-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">workplace bullying<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/ioadvisory.com\/blog\/sexual-harassment-workplace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">harassment<\/a> are common, but what isn\u2019t common is an open dialogue on how to get away from it.<\/p>\n<p>Most don\u2019t know how to resign from their position without a huge financial loss, or permanent dent in their resume. Leaving can also be emotionally challenging, provoking anxiety or even guilt depending on how intricate and intimate your work relationships have become. You might try to downplay the severity of the mistreatment you have experienced too. \u00a0Another concern is finding a new career without relying on your abusive employer as a reference.
