Summer is You Time. Relax and Recharge (but Don’t Relax your Standards!)
With Canada Day behind us and the official “holiday season” in full swing, it seems like a good time to remind ourselves that it’s always a good career move to be cognizant of one’s image on social media. The carefree, relaxed days of summer shouldn’t mean you relax your standards. In other words, when the beer comes out, put your phone away, and especially stay off Twitter and Instagram. Partying and selfies just don’t mix. In fact, there are some very effective apps that will lock up your phone and social media if you’re planning to party. If you’re past that stage, maybe you can share these links to Android and iOS/Apple apps with the younger people in your life who aren’t. On a related note, here’s an interesting article from Workopolis about job searching and your image, literally, on social media. These days your performance outside of work counts too These days your behaviour outside of work counts too. Here are some people whose careers were killed by bad behaviour — not necessarily at work. You may remember that guy who threw a can of beer onto the baseball field at a Toronto Blue Jays game a while back. He was charged with mischief and he lost his job. For some infamous examples of careers that were ended by carelessness and/or bad judgement, read about Justine Sacco, Anthony Weiner or Scott Bartosiewicz. More recently, there’s Rosanne Barr who tried to claim that the sedative Ambien made her do it. Her careless tweet cost her a TV show.

After all, from daydreams come ideas, and from ideas come plans. From plans come goals; and when we set goals we can achieve our dreams!
