What can Tom Hanks teach us about business? View this email in your browser

Are You Ready To Sharpen Your Business and Career Skills?

There’s a great line in that 90’s movie, You’ve Got Mail, where Tom Hanks says to Meg Ryan that he’d love to send her a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils. While he had romance on his mind, I think anyone who enjoys autumn will relate to his impulse to celebrate the back-to-school season, buckle down to work, and embrace the changing season. Tom Hanks plays a cut-throat businessman in the film, but he ends up learning a lot along the way – just like any business owner or employee who’s determined to succeed! This autumn, we’re embracing learning as well – from supporting franchisees to being part of some very special events.

UNIQUE SUPPORT FOR FRANCHISEES

Owning a franchise can be an incredibly exciting business move. The chance to be part of something successful, the opportunity to own your own business, the idea of making your mark on your community – this is why franchises are so popular. However, selling or buying a franchise can be an intimidating process. That’s why we’re proud to be offering assessments for franchisees.  We’ve been helping owners and owners-to-be identify red flags, understand all their options, suggest possible solutions, and make informed decisions. This is one of the biggest decisions of your life – shouldn’t you have some support?

However, preparing effectively for such an eventuality can diminish your anxiety and position you to manage the potential transition smoothly.

What Does It Mean to Demonstrate Authentic Leadership?

What Does It Mean to Demonstrate Authentic Leadership?

Inexperienced leaders must recognize the difference between playing the “character” of what they think a leader should be and what authentic leadership is. This requires self-reflection and intentionally developing a genuine leadership style based on their own strengths, values, and a keen understanding of the team’s dynamics. Otherwise, their approach will seem hollow or one-sided and come across as inauthentic.

Including Gen Z, four generations in the workplace. What’s the secret to making it work?

In today’s dynamic workplace, organizations are navigating a unique era in which the workforce spans four distinct generations Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, to the emerging Generation Z or “Gen-Z.” With each generation bringing its own set of values, skills, and work styles to the table, building an effective, cohesive multigenerational team presents opportunities and challenges.

Exploring the Consequences of Microaggressions in the Workplace

Exploring the Consequences of Microaggressions in the Workplace

During past training sessions, I’ve provided empirical and concrete examples of how discrimination and microaggressions can hurt more than the intended victims. Here, I’ll share one clear example, inspired by a recent TV interview, of how microaggressions and chronic mistreatment can impair retention and hurt the majority.
